Criminal Code charges have been sworn against a man following a Surrey Police Service (SPS) investigation into an alleged sexual assault of a female youth that occurred on August 9, 2026.

On August 9, 2026, SPS Frontline officers responded to a report of a sexual assault in Bear Creek Park in Surrey. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim, a female youth, who advised she had been groped by an adult male. The male suspect then fled the scene. On August 12, 2026, SPS put out a public appeal with photos of the suspect. A man matching the description of the suspect was identified and arrested later that day. 

On August 13, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved two Criminal Code charges, one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference, against Jagendar Kurana, a 40-year-old male.

Jagendar Kurana is awaiting a bail hearing and has been remanded until his next scheduled court appearance on August 17, 2026.
