Charges Approved in Surrey Shooting Investigation

On March 24, 2026, at 10:56 pm, Surrey Police Service (SPS) received a report of a motor vehicle collision with injuries in the 10300 block of University Drive. Further investigation revealed that the victim was driving northbound on University Avenue when they were allegedly struck by a bullet. BCEHS attended and transported the victim to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
SPS Major Crime Section assumed conduct of the investigation. A suspect was subsequently identified and arrested.
On April 1, 2026, BC Prosecution Service approved charges against one male.
A 42-year-old male is charged with the following offences:
- One count of reckless discharge of a firearm contrary to section 244.2(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
- One count of assault contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code
- One count of using an imitation firearm 85(2) of the Criminal Code
- One count of carrying a concealed weapon contrary to section 90(1) of the Criminal Code
- One count of fail to comply with release order contrary to section 145(5) of the Criminal Code
He remains in custody pending his next appearance in court on April 17.
