Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating a shooting that took place in the Newton area of Surrey last night.

On January 1, 2026, at approximately 11:45 pm, police responded to reports of shots fired inside a home in the area of 140B Street and 59 Avenue, Surrey. SPS members arrived on scene and located an injured male who was transported to hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. That individual was reported to be in stable condition. A second male at scene was arrested and the investigation into the incident is continuing. 

SPS’s Serious Crime Unit (SCU) has assumed conduct of this investigation. Although the investigation is in its early stages, this incident in not believed to be connected to extortion.
