SPS Targets Repeat Offenders with Funding Assistance from the Government of BC
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has recently concluded a four-month project targeting repeat offenders in the Whalley, Newton and South Surrey neighbourhoods.
SPS was granted funding through the Government of BC’s Special Investigations and Targeted Enforcement (SITE) program. This investment by the Government of BC allowed SPS to conduct targeted, intelligence-led patrols to address repeat offenders in the community.
Between November 2025, and February 2026, SPS Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) members in conjunction with Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP), Delta Police Department (DPD), BC RCMP Air Services, Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service (LMD IPDS), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Organized Crime Retail Association (ORCA) conducted targeted enforcement that directly impact public safety and quality of life in the community.
The targeted deployments resulted in:
- 136 arrests (10 arrests for breach)
- 35 warrants executed
- 55 charges recommended to BC Prosecution Service
- 54 weapons seized (11 bear spray, 39 edged weapons, 2 brass knuckles, 1 baton, 1 replica firearm)
- Over 360 grams of narcotics (methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and oxycodone)
- Seized over $5,000 in currency and over $7,400 in property as proceeds of crime
“The hard work by SPS CRU officers and their public safety partners has made a real impact on the quality of life of the citizens and businesses in Newton, Whalley and South Surrey. Targeting repeat offenders and offences through intelligence-led patrols, allows police to maximize their efficiency and improve public safety. I would like to thank the Government of BC for their funding assistance through the SITE program.” – Chief Constable Norm Lipinski, Surrey Police Service
“The SITE program has significantly enhanced police capabilities to target repeat violent offenders,” said Nina Krieger, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. “Targeted operations like this demonstrate how proactive enforcement and collaboration among policing partners reduce harm and strengthen public safety. I want to thank the Surrey Police Service for utilizing this initiative to keep the people of Surrey safe.”
