Project 529 is the largest and most advanced online bike registry in North America. Self-Register your bike to help prevent bike theft.

Surrey Police Service (SPS) is partnering with Project 529 to make it harder for thieves to steal your bicycle and easier for you to get it back if it’s stolen. SPS has joined a growing number of police agencies in this community-based bicycle registration and recovery service.

What is Project 529?

Project 529 is a simple, community-powered way to help protect your bike and improve the chances of getting it back if it is ever lost or stolen. By registering your bike, you create a secure record of key details such as the serial

number, photos, and identifying features. This information can help law enforcement and the broader cycling community identify your bike and support recovery efforts.

Residents can also add a 529 Shield, a tamper-resistant decal with a unique identification code linked to the bike’s registration. When placed in a visible location on the frame, the Shield can act as a deterrent and gives officers, community members, and potential buyers another way to identify a registered bike.

How it works?

  1. Register your bike online by adding the serial number, make, model, and photos.
  2. Keep your bike information up to date so it is easy to identify.
  3. Add a 529 Shield if available for another visible layer of protection.
  4. If your bike goes missing, report it to police and update your registration so it can be flagged in the system.
  5. If a registered bike is found, the information in the registry can help connect it back to its rightful owner.
