Arrest and Charges Following Incident at Redwood Park

A 37-year-old man has now been charged following his arrest after allegedly assaulting a victim, causing a vehicular collision, and then chasing the victim with a knife in South Surrey on September 9, 2026.
On September 9, 2026, at approximately 4:44 pm, Surrey Police Service (SPS) was called about an alleged assault in Redwood Park located near 179 Street and 20 Avenue in South Surrey. The victim attempted to drive away in his Ford pickup truck when the suspect drove his Jeep Wrangler into it. The victim then ran from the truck as the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and chased after him. Fortunately, a nearby witness driving a Telsa provided the victim safety until SPS officers arrived.
Several SPS officers responded to the call and immediately took the suspect into custody without incident.
Richard Mark James Evoy, a 37-year-old male, has been charged by BC Prosecution Service with the following Criminal Code offences:
- One count of assault with a weapon;
- One count of assault;
- One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- One count of criminal harassment; and
- One count of uttering threats.
He has been remanded into custody, and he is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court this afternoon to determine his next scheduled appearance date.
Police have identified and spoken to witnesses; however, are asking anyone who has information about the incident and has yet to speak with police to contact SPS at 604-599-0502 and reference file 26-96726 (SP).
