Police Arrest Shooting Suspect

One man is in custody and Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating following a mid-afternoon shots fired incident in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood.
At approximately 3:13 pm SPS officers who were nearby reported that a man was shooting near the Gateway Skytrain Station at University Drive and 108 Avenue, Surrey. No officers or members of the public were injured, and the man fled. Officers quickly located the man at the front of SPS’s District 1 Community Police Office where additional shots were reportedly fired.
Officers from the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT) and the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS) responded to assist SPS officers. IERT and IPDS were able to safely take the man into custody.
SPS’s District 1 Community Police Office was temporarily closed as the RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) responded to search a bag left in the District 1 office by the suspect. The bag was checked and determined not to contain anything suspicious.
Officers remain on scene to examine the area for physical and digital evidence. Much of the area is expected to the closed to vehicle and/or pedestrian traffic throughout the remainder of the afternoon and evening.
