Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating a serious collision involving a 9-year-old child pedestrian and a single vehicle in Newton that has resulted in the child being taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

On December 5, 2025, at approximately 2:35 pm, SPS received reports of a pedestrian, a 9-year-old child, who was struck in a collision with a vehicle in the 13400 block 81 Avenue, Surrey. SPS members attended the scene along with Surrey Fire Service and BCEHS. The child suffered serious, life-threatening, injuries and was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries where life saving measures continue.

SPS’s Collision Investigation Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation. While the cause of the collision is still under investigation, at this stage impairment is not believed to be a factor and the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators.

81 Avenue will be closed in the area between King George Boulevard and 134 Street for several hours while the investigation is ongoing.
