The Student Police Academy is a weekly course designed to give youth an inside look into policing.

SPS Youth Police Academy

This interactive learning series aims to foster a better understanding between of SPS and the communities we serve, it asks important questions and helps us explore what the community can do together to enhance public safety. 

The Academy is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of the policing environment and valuable insight into a potential career in policing.

Throughout the week, students will participate in:

  • Team-building exercises
  • Daily fitness sessions
  • Legal studies
  • Communication and de-escalation training
  • Problem-solving activities
  • Teamwork development

Each day will include physical fitness components. The POPAT (Police Officer Physical Abilities Test) will take place on the first day, so participants must be active and physically fit.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Student must be in Grade 11 or 12, or graduating in June prior to the Academy
  2. Demonstrated interest in a career in policing
  3. Physically fit
  4. Able to complete a Criminal Record Check
  5. Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
