SPS Youth Services Unit, in collaboration with the Operational Skills Section, will be hosting a Student Police Academy in July. The Academy will provide students with a basic understanding of the policing environment and insight into a career in policing.
Throughout the week, students will participate in:
- Team-building exercises
- Daily fitness sessions
- Legal studies
- Communication and de-escalation training
- Problem-solving activities
- Teamwork development
Each student must be physically fit, as the academy will include the POPAT (Police Officers Physical Assessment Test) and daily physical fitness.
Date: July 20 - 24
Time: 8am - 4pm
Location: SPS Training Centre, 14577 66 Avenue, Surrey
Cost: Registration fee per student is $150 which includes SPS athletic gear and other related items.
Eligibility requirements:
- Student is in grade 11 or 12
- Desire to learn about a career in policing
- Physically fit
- Complete a Criminal Record Check
- Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
Selection process:
- Complete and submit attached forms
- Selection interviews
- Final selection
- Parent information session
