Intimate partner violence is a serious crime. If you or someone you know is experiencing violence or abuse in an intimate relationship, we encourage you to report it. Intimate partner violence can take many forms, some might include:
- Physical abuse: Hitting, slapping, choking, or any physical harm.
- Sexual abuse: Non-consensual sexual acts or behavior.
- Emotional or psychological abuse: Threats, humiliation, or controlling behavior.
- Financial abuse: Withholding money, controlling financial resources, or exploiting a partner financially.
- Stalking or harassment: Unwanted contact or attention that causes fear or distress.

How to report intimate partner violence
If you are in immediate danger, call 9-1-1.
You can report intimate partner violence through the following methods:
- Non-Emergency: 604-599-0502
- Visit Us: Find the nearest SPS police office.
- Third-Party Reporting: If you do not feel comfortable reporting directly to the police, you can report the assault through a trusted third-party agency. Orgniazations such as VictimLinkBC will forward the information to police on your behalf. You can also contact VictimLink by phone at at 1-800-563-0808.
What happens after you report
Once we receive your report, we will:
- Assess your situation and prioritize your safety.
- Provide immediate assistance if needed, including emergency shelter or medical attention.
- Investigate the incident thoroughly and confidentially.
- Connect you with support services such as counselling, victim services, and legal resources.
- Guide you through the legal process if charges are laid.
