Developing authentic relationships based on trust and connection with youth and families.

Who we are

Youth Services works with community partners and schools to promote a safe and healthy environment for youth and their families. We respond and provide support for incidents occurring on school property during and after school hours and during school sanctioned events and our goal is to “meet youth where they are at”, providing outreach opportunities, in community spaces, parks, recreational centers, and other places where youth may congregate.

Our Youth Support Team is trained in a trauma-informed practice approach to dealing with high risk youth. Studies have shown that children and youth are vulnerable to the negative effects of traumatic experiences and it can increase the risk for involvement in the youth justice, child welfare and foster care systems. Utilizing a Trauma informed approach ensures we are supporting youth and families in a safe and supportive manner thus providing a safe and healthy environment for long term learning and growth

The role of the police

  • To identify and support vulnerable youth and families to build resilience and healthy, safe environments.
  • To collaboratively work and support our community partners and to effectively triage vulnerable youth and provide Wrap Around Services.
  • To identify gaps within the services and to fill in those gaps with strategic partners who share the same Language, Goals and Values.
  • Ensure that effective and accessible supports are provided for vulnerable youth and their families

School Resource Officers

School Resource Officers (SROs) provide policing services to all Surrey schools (District 36 and private) for incidents occurring on and in school property during school hours and after school hours during school sanctioned events, such as sporting events or field trips. Building authentic connections with students and school administration will ensure we can collaboratively work towards a healthy and safe learning environment.
