Surrey Police Service (SPS) is currently investigating an attempted child abduction by a stranger this past weekend that has resulted in a man being charged with Criminal Code offences.

On June 13, 2026, at 6:38 pm, SPS Frontline officers responded to an attempted abduction of a child by a stranger in the 8100 block 136A Street, Surrey, after a child, who was outside playing in a driveway, was allegedly approached by a stranger and physically picked up. Bystanders saw the incident and intervened, causing the stranger to put the child down and leave the area. A man matching the description of the suspect was detained by bystanders a short distance away until police arrived and took him into custody. The child was not physically injured in the incident. 

Liam Robert Dobbs-Morency, a 22-year-old male, has been charged with one count of abduction of a person under 14 years of age, and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. 

SPS’s Major Crime Section (MCS) has taken the lead on the investigation, which is ongoing. 

Dobbs-Morency made his first court appearance on June14, 2026, and has been remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 18, 2026.
