Nationally competitive salary compensation
- First Class Constable (after four years): $121,989
- First Class Constable (after 10 years): $128,088
- First Class Constable (after 15 years): $134,188
- First Class Constable (after 20 years): $140,287
- Sergeant (First three years): $146,387
Frontline Signing Bonus
To support the recruitment of experienced Frontline Constables, SPS is offering a $10,000 Frontline Signing Bonus for a limited time to experienced Constables who join SPS’s Frontline on patrol duties.
Member wellness
Taking care of our officers is important. Whether you’re on or off duty, we want to make sure you’re supported with adequate leave and medical benefits that support you and your family.
Sick leave
- 80 hours earned on first day of employment and each subsequent anniversary date
- Additional 160 hours of sick leave credits each calendar year (80 hours on June 30th and 80 hours December 31st)
- Total of 240 hours earned each year after becoming First Class Constable
Wellness leave
- Every member receives 40 hours of wellness leave in each calendar year.
Statutory holiday leave
- Every member is provided with 130 hours (10-hour workdays x 13 stats) of statutory leave at the beginning of the calendar year.
Supplemental leave
- Each member is entitled to forty (40) hours of supplementary annual leave in addition to the annual leave to which they are entitled upon commencing their 16th, 21st, 26th, 31st year of work, and so on.
Maternity/parental leave
- 95% top of gross weekly earnings for 52 weeks
Medical plan highlights for you and your dependents
- 100% employer premiums paid
- Plan Lifetime Limit: Unlimited
- Psychologist/Social Worker/Clinical Counsellor: $5,000 per calendar year
- Physiotherapist: Unlimited
- Occupational Therapist: Unlimited
- Acupuncture/Chiropractor, Massage Therapist, and Naturopath: $5,000 per calendar year combined
- Fertility Drugs and Treatment: $20,000 lifetime maximum

Career opportunities
We continue to have many opportunities for advancement. While we are building up to our full staffing complement, SPS is temporarily offering the ability for experienced officers to apply for lateral opportunities or promotions after six months of service with SPS.
Pension
Members who transfer their pension from other agencies are who are covered under a reciprocal agreement may be in a position to receive a residual amount from their previous pension plan. For more information on transfer agreements please visit BC’s Municipal Pension Plan (BCMPP) site.
BCMPP – “80 Factor” vs “85 Factor”
- Your age at retirement plus your years of pensionable service only needs to equal 80 years (85 years is required in most out-of-province and federal pension plans).
BCMPP will take your best four earning years instead of best five
- Most out-of-province and federal plans take the average of your best five earning years.
Other Benefits
- Your Medical Service Plan is paid for by SPS.
- We offer a Field Trainer’s Premium that gives Field Trainers an additional 7.5% of pay on top of their annual salary.
- Chief Constable's Scholarship is an educational benefit of up to $3,500 per person to put towards higher education courses and programs.
- We have a clothing allowance for non-operational positions up to $1,200 per year.
- Drycleaning service is fully paid for by SPS.
- Shift Differential of $1.40 per hour is added between 18:00-06:00.
- On-Call Compensation 15 hours of pay per week of on-call
